A baby boy, renamed Godswill Kalu Awa (alias), who was trafficked from Abuja to Aba in February 2025, has been rescued by the Abia State Command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The suspected trafficker was apprehended by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abia and subsequently handed over to NAPTIP for further investigation and prosecution.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly collaborated with three trafficking syndicates based in Abuja and sold the child to a buyer in Aba.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that in her statement to authorities, she confessed that the syndicates, who are currently at large, received ₦1.8 million from the illicit transaction, while she was paid ₦100,000.
NAPTIP has launched a manhunt for the fleeing traffickers and is appealing to the biological parents or any relatives of the rescued child to urgently contact the Agency for proper identification and reunification.
