The Lagos State Government has unveiled an elaborate week-long programme to commemorate the 2025 edition of Children’s Day, aligning with global celebrations to honour the rights, development, and future of children.
Themed “Children: Our Future and Our Responsibility,” the celebration highlights the government’s renewed commitment to the welfare, safety, and holistic development of children across the state.
The series of events will commence on Tuesday, May 20, and run through Tuesday, May 27, 2025, featuring a variety of educational, cultural, spiritual, and entertaining activities tailored to inspire and empower young people.
According to the schedule released, the festivities will begin with a Youth Forum and Career Talk at the Education Resource Centre (ERC) Hall, Ojodu-Berger, at 10:00 a.m., alongside a Debate Competition at the Co-Curricular Services Division Office, Akoka, also at 10:00 a.m.
On Wednesday, May 21, the spotlight will be on cultural expression with a Cultural Display set to take place at the ERC Hall, Ojodu-Berger, starting at 10:00 a.m.
The celebration will also include interfaith observances. A Jumat Service will be held on Friday, May 23, at the Alausa Secretariat Mosque, Ikeja, at 12:00 noon, while a Thanksgiving Service is scheduled for Sunday, May 25, at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja, at 10:00 a.m.
The commemorative week will climax with a Grand Parade and Rally on Tuesday, May 27—the official Children’s Day—at the Police College Ground, Ikeja, starting at 8:00 a.m.
Observed annually in Nigeria on May 27, Children’s Day serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of safeguarding the rights and nurturing the potential of every child. It also emphasises the collective responsibility of society in fostering a secure, inclusive, and enabling environment for children to thrive.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Lagos State Government stated that it remains steadfast in championing policies and initiatives that support the growth, education, and empowerment of children. The government reiterated that children are not only the leaders of tomorrow but also vital contributors to the state’s current and future development.
