Activities at the Federal Ministry of Finance were brought to a complete standstill on Tuesday as members of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) staged a protest, alleging the unlawful withholding of their funds.
Clad in striking red T-shirts and brandishing placards with various inscriptions, the demonstrators chanted solidarity songs while effectively barricading the Ministry’s entrance. Their actions were a clear expression of deep-seated grievances against the Ministry.
PENGASSAN leadership has accused the Ministry of failing to release funds designated for the Association, vowing to continue the protest indefinitely until their demands are met.
While no official statement has been issued by the protesters to the media, the messages on their placards strongly suggest issues related to allowance arrears and other emoluments.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that all entry and exit points leading to the Ministry remained sealed and none offer to have an interview with the journalists as at the time of filing the story.
