President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration received a strong commendation for its governance efforts on Thursday at the inaugural All Progressives Congress (APC) National Summit.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, both praised the President’s leadership, while also urging party stakeholders to significantly boost their grassroots engagement in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Speaker Abbas praised the increased synergy between the National Assembly and the Executive, particularly in the area of constituency project funding, which he said has empowered lawmakers to deliver tangible benefits in health, education, and infrastructure to their constituents.
Speaking on the importance of strategic communication and grassroots mobilization, Abbas stated: “Now is the time for every APC stakeholder to articulate our record in clear and transparent terms. Now is the time to take our message directly to our communities.”
He emphasized that electoral victory in 2027 would not be achieved by rhetoric alone but through continued delivery of impactful policies and programs that inspire public confidence.
“An electoral victory in 2027 can only be secured by the confidence we inspire among our people. And we can only inspire confidence by demonstrating how our policies are improving lives,” he said.
Abbas called on all party members—from governors to board appointees—to align with the President’s agenda and deepen public awareness of the administration’s achievements in job creation, infrastructure, security, and economic stabilization. He noted that the 2025 budget’s focus on austerity and strategic investment, along with institutional reforms at the Central Bank, are proof of APC’s capacity for bold and effective governance.
“This is the time to deepen our outreach, sharpen our messaging, and forge an unbreakable bond between the APC and the people,” he urged.
In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the Tinubu administration’s achievements in stabilizing a fragile economy and improving national security, despite inheriting enormous debt and socio-economic challenges.
“Despite inheriting a fragile economy and over ₦30 trillion in debt, you have already paid off more than ₦8 trillion. And yet, most people don’t even know this. That’s money that could have amplified many of your developmental programs,” Akpabio noted.
He urged the APC National Working Committee to establish a strong communication task force that would translate federal achievements into localized messages for public enlightenment.
“Any society that is not informed is ultimately deformed,” he warned, citing the power of both information and misinformation in shaping public opinion in the age of social media.
Akpabio praised the President’s leadership style and collaborative efforts with Vice President Kashim Shettima, describing the Tinubu-led team as a historic blend of political sagacity and executive discipline.
“For the first time in Nigeria’s history, we have an astute politician as President—working in close synergy with strong political figures like Vice President Shettima and myself. The results are visible,” he said.
Reflecting on the need for realistic expectations and sustained political engagement, Akpabio cautioned against complacency, recalling the gap between campaign rallies and actual votes in 2023.
“It’s not about eloquent speeches anymore—let the results in 2027 reflect the energy and commitment we’re expressing here today,” he charged.
The summit, which also brought together key party leaders, governors, and stakeholders, was hailed as a symbol of unity and renewed commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Senate President Akpabio concluded with a rallying call to action: “Please, don’t sleep. We still have a lot of work to do.”
