Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to leave the club following their final Premier League match of the season against Bournemouth on Sunday, bringing his brief stint at the King Power Stadium to a close.
Club officials are yet to finalise a replacement, but former Southampton manager Russell Martin and current Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl have emerged as frontrunners.
Sources within the club have indicated that no formal steps will be taken regarding a new appointment until Van Nistelrooy’s departure is officially concluded, in a move seen as respectful to the Dutchman.
Negotiations over Van Nistelrooy’s exit agreement are expected to commence early next week. Reports from Sky Sports News last month suggested that Leicester had already been weighing a managerial change ahead of the summer.
While Martin’s representatives have reportedly been approached, no formal talks have taken place with the club’s hierarchy. Rohl, on the other hand, has a buyout clause in his contract at Hillsborough, which would be halved if he moves to another Championship club rather than a Premier League side.
Both Martin and Rohl are believed to be on the radar of other clubs, potentially prompting Leicester to move quickly once Van Nistelrooy’s exit is confirmed.
