PDP NEC Condemns APC Administration, Sets Date for National Convention |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a communique following its 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.

The party’s NEC, led by Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum, reviewed the state of the nation and internal party matters, issuing a series of strong-worded resolutions targeting the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

In its assessment, the PDP NEC expressed grave concern over what it described as the “sorry and melancholic” state of the nation under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the APC government of being “irredeemably exploitative, insensitive, and anti-people.”

The communique specifically condemned the worsening security situation in the country, citing increased incidents of killings, banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism. It attributed these issues to President Tinubu’s alleged “negligence and abdication” of constitutional responsibilities.

NEC also decried the economic challenges facing Nigerians, blaming policies such as fuel subsidy removal, electricity tariff hikes, and multiple taxation for the collapse of the productive sector, closure of businesses, job losses, and widespread hardship.

“The country is sliding into infrastructural retrogression, policy inconsistency, massive corruption, and loss of investor confidence under the APC administration,” the statement alleged.

The PDP NEC called on President Tinubu to immediately reverse all “anti-people” policies and adopt practical measures to tackle insecurity and economic decline.

Raising alarm over what it termed a “sinister plot” to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, the NEC accused the APC of attempting to “stifle opposition parties through siege, threats, and intimidation.” It pledged the PDP’s commitment to democracy, rule of law, and multi-party governance.

Despite prevailing political challenges, the party declared the successful hosting of its 99th NEC meeting as a signal of unity and focus.

Key decisions reached during the meeting include the ratification of the composition of two committees ahead of the party’s National Convention, scheduled to hold from Thursday, August 28 to Saturday, August 30, 2025.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was named Chairman of the National Convention Committee, with Governor Ademola Adeleke as Vice Chairman and Governor Peter Mbah as Secretary. For the Zoning Committee, Governor Douye Diri was appointed Chairman, Governor Dauda Lawal as Vice Chairman, and Governor Caleb Mutfwang as Secretary.

NEC also acknowledged the resolution from the South East Zonal Executive regarding the National Secretary position and resolved to consider the matter at its next meeting, scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025.

Concluding, the NEC reassured Nigerians of the PDP’s strength, resilience, and determination to lead the charge in what it termed the “rescue mission” to reclaim the country from the APC.
