The Plateau State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, on Monday, marked the 2025 International Children’s Day with a colourful celebration at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.

This year’s event, themed “Stand Up, Speak Up! Building a Bullying-Free Generation,” attracted over 800 school children from across the state.

The occasion featured a range of activities, including a symposium, cultural dance competition, and a presidential debate, creating a festive and educational atmosphere.

Chairperson of the Gender Commission, Barrister Olivia Dazyem, delivered a keynote address that resonated with the young audience. She emphasized the importance of empathy, inclusion, and the courage to speak against bullying, urging children to become ambassadors of positive change in their schools and communities.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Ngo Josephine Piyo, who represented the Executive Governor. Also present was the First Lady of Plateau State, Her Excellency Barrister Mrs. Helen Mutfwang, a known advocate for children’s rights and welfare.

Members of the Plateau State Children’s Parliament also took part in the celebration, with the Speaker delivering a stirring speech that reflected the dreams and concerns of the state’s children.

In a show of solidarity for child welfare, commissioners, female political appointees, spouses of local government chairmen, and prominent women stakeholders were also in attendance. Their participation reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting and promoting the rights of every child in the state.

In a joint address, the Commissioners for Women Affairs and Education called on parents, teachers, and community leaders to collaborate in creating a safe and nurturing environment for children to thrive.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts to all participating students and schools. Special recognition and donations were extended to children from orphanages, ensuring that the celebration was inclusive and far-reaching.

The 2025 International Children’s Day celebration in Plateau State not only honored the voices of young people but also reinforced the TIME IS NOW administration’s resolve to build a society where every child is seen, heard, and protected.
