Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in the early hours of Tuesday successfully repelled an attempted attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on their location in New Marte, Borno State.
According to a statement signed by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters Theatre Command, the terrorists made an attempt to infiltrate the troops’ position but were met with a coordinated response from ground forces and the Air Component of OPHK.
The swift action by troops, supported by Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and offensive air support, led to the decimation of several fleeing terrorists.
During the engagement, two soldiers were reported to have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Despite the loss, troops succeeded in recovering a Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) SUV abandoned by the terrorists. Several motorcycles used by the insurgents were also destroyed in precision air strikes.
Subsequent clearance operations in the area led to the discovery of multiple terrorist corpses, along with blood trails on their escape routes—indicating additional casualties among the attackers.
In a related development, troops also thwarted another attempted assault by terrorists on the Forward Operating Base at Kumshe, further showcasing the operational effectiveness and coordination of security forces in the region.
The Army statement emphasized that the successful operations reflect the renewed synergy and commitment in the fight against terrorism, with a focus on restoring peace and enabling socio-economic activities to thrive in Nigeria’s North East region.
