Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his administration’s midterm milestone, urging Nigerians to support ongoing efforts to tackle poverty and inflation.
Buhari’s message was conveyed in a statement issued on Wednesday by his former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
The former president called for continued backing of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government as it marks its second year in office, stressing that meaningful reforms require time and resilience.
“Reforms will achieve success gradually, not overnight,” Buhari said, while cautioning against allowing “necessary reforms and desired changes” to be derailed by “mettlesome domestic politics.”
He emphasized that leadership is a continuous journey and urged the nation to remain focused and united in its development goals.
Buhari also expressed support for the Tinubu administration’s ongoing initiatives aimed at reducing poverty and inflation, noting that these economic challenges have severely affected the country’s most vulnerable citizens.
“The task of reducing poverty and inflation mustn’t be left to the government alone,” he stated. “The private sector and all of us, as citizens, must join in all ways we can.”
Calling on Nigerians to remain optimistic, Buhari urged the public to maintain realistic expectations from government efforts.
He concluded his message by extending warm felicitations to President Tinubu on his two-year anniversary in office and offered prayers for divine wisdom and strength for the president in the years ahead.
