In a decisive move to bolster public safety and curb criminal activity, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has concluded a week-long enforcement operation across several identified hotspots in the state.
The operation, led by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele, commenced in the early hours of each day around 1:30 a.m., targeting criminal hideouts and areas with repeated environmental violations.
The taskforce acted on intelligence reports and residents’ complaints, covering key locations such as Victoria Island, Osborne Road, Coastal Road, Chevron, First and Second Roundabout, Obalende, Ikota, Lekki Phase I and II, Ikoyi, Falomo Bridge, Law School, Eko Hotel axis, Oniru Beach, as well as Ketu, Isale Oja, AP Roundabout, and railway corridors in Agege.
The operation led to the arrest of 277 suspects, many of whom were involved in street-level crimes including hooliganism, pickpocketing, and other forms of public nuisance. The crackdown has since restored order and improved public decency in several of the affected areas.
Speaking on the outcome, CSP Akerele reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and the environment across Lagos State.
“Those who choose to undermine the peace and security of our communities must desist or be prepared to face the full weight of the law. We will not relent in our efforts to ensure a safer and cleaner Lagos,” he said.
CSP Akerele further noted that the operation is part of a broader, continuous initiative to conduct routine enforcement activities throughout the week, focusing on known blackspots, illegal structures, and criminal enclaves.
All 277 suspects apprehended during the operation have been arraigned in accordance with the laws of Lagos State.
