The Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, is scheduled to pay a historic visit to the Oluwo of Iwoland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

The much-anticipated royal visit is expected to further deepen the longstanding bond and historical ties between the two ancient Yoruba cities Oyo and Iwo.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Oluwo, Alli Ibraheem, the Oluwo called on all well-meaning sons and daughters of Iwoland to come out en masse to give the visiting monarch a befitting reception, in line with the town’s age-old tradition of warm hospitality.

“The Alaafin of the Oyo Empire, Iku Baba Yeye, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, will visit the Paramount Ruler of Iwoland, HIM Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, in his palace on Tuesday, 3rd June 2025,” the statement read.

Describing the visit as a significant milestone, the statement added, “The historical visit will entrench the existing unity between the two ancient cities of Oyo and Iwo. The royal affinity between the two stools is muscular, and both monarchs are committed to sustaining this bond.”

The royal visit is expected to feature traditional displays, cultural exchange, and interactions aimed at reinforcing the mutual respect and collaboration between the two royal institutions.
