The Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abayomi Akinruntan, representing Ilaje Constituency I, has officially resigned from his position.
At the plenary session held on Tuesday, which was presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, the Majority Leader, Hon. Emmanuel Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi from Owo Constituency I, also stepped down. He has since been replaced by Hon. Olatunji Oshati, representing Ose Constituency.
Akinruntan, who hails from the same local government area as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, attributed his resignation to political power-sharing considerations within the state.
He has been succeeded by Hon. Ololade Gbegudu, who represents Okitipupa Constituency II.
In a statement made available to LAGOS EYE NEWS, Akinruntan described his resignation as a personal decision that aligns with the established political zoning and power-sharing structure in Ondo State.
“It is with gratitude and humility that I announce my resignation as Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, effective today,” the statement reads.
“After due consultation and careful consideration, I have decided to step down due to personal reasons, which align with the conventional arrangement in power sharing of elective positions in the State.”
“I express my profound gratitude to my fellow members for the trust they reposed in me during my tenure. It has been an honour to serve under the leadership of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and currently, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, both of whom created platforms for effective governance and collaboration.”
“As I exit this office, I remain committed to serving the people of my constituency and Ondo State at large. With over 10 years of experience in the House, I am confident that my expertise will continue to benefit our state. I look forward to continuing my service until 2027.”
Following these events, Mr. Olatunji Oshati, from Ose State Constituency, has taken over as Majority Leader, and Mr. Ololade Gbegudu, from Okitipupa Constituency 2, has been chosen as the new Deputy Speaker.
