As part of its ongoing efforts to support vulnerable residents, the Lagos State Government has disbursed cheques to 250 beneficiaries under the Sanwo-Olu Listen Financial Assistance Programme.

The cheque presentation ceremony took place on Monday at the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement in Alausa, Ikeja. Addressing the beneficiaries, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, reiterated the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to alleviating hardship and promoting inclusive governance across the state.
“This administration remains committed to listening to the people. The programme is a reflection of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s open-door policy and compassionate leadership. We are here today because the governor heard your cries and decided to respond,” Dr. Afolabi stated.
He emphasized that the financial assistance programme is part of the government’s strategy to respond directly to the needs of the most vulnerable, including individuals with health challenges, small-scale traders in need of capital, residents struggling with rent, and others facing severe economic hardship.
According to Dr. Afolabi, beneficiaries were carefully selected through a rigorous review process to ensure that only genuine and deserving cases received support. He urged recipients to make judicious use of the funds and encouraged continued civic engagement through appropriate government channels.
He also reaffirmed the Sanwo-Olu administration’s resolve to build a more inclusive Lagos, where no one is left behind.
It would be recalled that during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing of the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi announced that N1.6 billion was earmarked for the 2025 Financial Assistance Programme aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship on Lagosians. The current disbursement marks another fulfilled promise by the Babajide Sanwo-Olu/Obafemi Hamzat administration.
Expressing gratitude, one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Taofeek Okunlola, admitted he initially doubted the programme’s authenticity. He revealed that he applied for support after his small-scale business collapsed and was pleasantly surprised to be among the selected recipients.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Comfort Balogun, said the financial aid would help cover part of her child’s medical expenses. She thanked the state government for the timely intervention.
Also in attendance at the event were the Permanent Secretary, Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, Engr. Sholabomi Shasore, along with directors from the office.
