Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has declared that no individual or group will dictate his political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governor Makinde made this statement on Monday while receiving members of the Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU), who paid him a solidarity visit at his office in Ibadan.
Reaffirming that his political future is a personal decision, the governor stressed his administration’s commitment to institutionalizing good governance that will outlive his tenure.
He assured the students of his continuous support, emphasizing that the welfare of students and the broader development of the state remain top priorities.
“I will not be distracted by calls from various quarters urging me to run for presidency in 2027. My focus is on ensuring Oyo State experiences real and sustainable development,” he said.
Makinde also addressed the paradox of Nigeria’s abundant natural resources and its prevailing poverty, noting that resource wealth alone is not enough to guarantee prosperity. According to him, the key lies in equipping the populace with skills, investing in knowledge, and prioritizing productive activities.
He encouraged the student leaders to work in harmony with the government and to offer constructive suggestions that could enhance existing policies and programs.
The visit underscored the students’ support for the Makinde-led administration and their alignment with the state’s developmental vision.
