President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has described the visit of Mozambican President Daniel Chapo to Malawi as a significant step towards strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two nations.
Speaking at the State House in Lilongwe during the commencement of bilateral talks, President Chakwera said the ties between Malawi and Mozambique are founded on shared values, a common identity, and a spirit of good neighbourliness.
Dr Chakwera expressed optimism that the warm and cooperative relations Malawi enjoyed with former Mozambican President Felipe Nyusi would continue under President Chapo’s leadership.
He further pledged Malawi’s full support to President Chapo, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver on the expectations of the Mozambican people.
The bilateral talks are expected to cover various areas of mutual interest, including regional cooperation, trade, infrastructure, and security.
