A major fire outbreak occurred on Wednesday at the Optimal Filling Station located in the Obawole area of Iju Ishaga, Lagos, following an explosion from a fuel tanker.
According to reports, the incident began when a gas tank caught fire while fuel was being offloaded at the station. The explosion triggered a blaze that spread to two nearby buildings along Kfarm Road, behind the station.
Lagos Eye News gathered that emergency services were promptly alerted. Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other relevant agencies quickly responded to the scene.
In a statement issued by LASTMA, the agency confirmed that, despite the intensity of the fire, no casualties were recorded.

“LASTMA and other officers from various agencies responded promptly to the scene and worked together to manage the situation. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties. The fire was successfully extinguished, and traffic within the corridor has returned to normal,” the statement read.
The swift coordination among emergency responders ensured that the situation was brought under control and normalcy restored in the affected area, said LASTMA.
Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or hazardous activities to prevent future occurrences.
