The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has suspended its operations in the Ajibode, Apete, and Awotan communities in Oyo state, following continued unrest and disruptions from residents over electricity supply issues.
According to a statement issued by IBEDC management, the affected communities, located within the Ibadan Region, have been without power for some time and have repeatedly demanded a switch to a Band A feeder as a precondition for paying their electricity bills.
Despite multiple efforts by IBEDC to resolve the matter through dialogue and stakeholder engagement, the company reported that its personnel were forcefully ejected and three of its offices in the area were shut down by residents.
Describing the situation as unfortunate, IBEDC stated that it has withdrawn its services from the three communities to safeguard its staff and prevent further commercial losses.
“As a responsible and customer-focused organization, we value peaceful engagement and constructive feedback,” the statement read. “However, the prevailing circumstances have compelled us to take this step until normalcy is restored.”
The company appealed to residents of Ajibode, Apete, and Awotan to utilize lawful and peaceful channels for resolving disputes, warning that continued disruptions compromise service delivery and endanger both personnel and infrastructure.
“IBEDC remains committed to providing reliable electricity supply across our franchise
and to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to achieve lasting solutions, the statement concluded.
