Two individuals, identified as Simeon David Akpata (22) and Miss Oluwamotemi Otunba (28), were apprehended on Wednesday by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment for illegally dumping refuse along Ebute-Ipakodo Road.
The arrest followed a tip-off from a concerned Lagos resident who witnessed the act and promptly alerted enforcement officers.
According to reports, the suspects were immediately taken into custody by environmental enforcement agents.
In a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, it was confirmed that both individuals will be prosecuted in accordance with the relevant environmental laws of the state.

Commending the vigilance of the whistleblower, Wahab reiterated the government’s stance on environmental hygiene, emphasizing that the responsibility of maintaining a cleaner Lagos rests with all residents.
“Keeping Lagos clean is a collective duty. We urge all residents to desist from indiscriminate waste disposal, particularly in drainage channels, to prevent flooding and ensure a healthier environment,” a government spokesperson added.
