Saraki Acknowledges PDP Crisis, Urges Party’s Reorganization |LAGOS EYE NEWS

Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has acknowledged that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is grappling with internal challenges.

His remarks come in response to President Bola Tinubu’s recent comments about the state of Nigeria’s opposition parties.

Saraki’s statement followed President Tinubu’s Democracy Day address, during which the president mocked opposition parties for their apparent disarray and dismissed allegations that his administration was steering the country toward a one-party state through widespread defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a measured response, Saraki admitted the PDP is experiencing internal crises but expressed optimism about the party’s ability to overcome its current difficulties.

He urged members of the PDP and other opposition groups to prioritize internal reforms and organizational restructuring.

“We must get our house in order,” Saraki said, calling for a collective effort among opposition parties to refocus and strengthen democratic institutions in the country.

“I think we must take him at his word. I mean, he spoke well—saying that he’s not in support of a one-party state. So we must take him at his word and believe he supports a multi-party system. We’re all on the same page. That’s why we’re reaching out and encouraging everyone to come together. For those who say they’re under pressure—there is no pressure anymore. We’re all in support of a multi-party democracy, and as he said, he’s not going to help us. So we must put our own house in order.”

Saraki reiterated his call for members of the PDP and other opposition parties to reorganize and prepare for the challenges ahead.
