The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued a strong condemnation of the recent wave of coordinated attacks in Benue State, which have claimed the lives of more than 200 people.
In a statement signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, CAN described the killings as “horrific” and “senseless,” lamenting the devastating impact on families and communities.
The association extended its condolences to the bereaved and prayed for the peaceful repose of the victims.
“For too long, the people of Benue have endured repeated attacks often attributed to armed groups, with little to no meaningful intervention or justice,” the statement read. “This persistent failure to protect lives and hold perpetrators accountable has only emboldened further violence.”

CAN urged the Federal Government to act swiftly by deploying reinforced security personnel to vulnerable areas and, if necessary, declaring a state of emergency in the most affected regions.
The Christian body also called for a transparent and thorough investigation into the killings, stressing the need for justice to break what it described as a “cycle of impunity.”
It further appealed to the international community to support peacebuilding and recovery efforts in Benue.
“CAN remains committed to defending the sanctity of life and advocating for the protection and dignity of all Nigerians,” Archbishop Okoh stated. “May peace be restored, and may justice roll down like waters.”
