In a major political development, former Vice President Namadi Sambo has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection was formalised on Wednesday at the Kaduna State Government House, ending months of speculation over Sambo’s political future.

He was received by Kaduna Stapte Governor Uba Sani alongside other top-ranking APC officials.

Sambo, who served as Vice President under the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, was also a former Governor of Kaduna State and remains a prominent figure in northern politics.

His move is widely seen as a significant blow to the PDP, particularly in the North-West, where the party has been struggling with internal divisions and high-profile defections.

Political analysts have described Sambo’s defection as a major realignment that could reshape the political landscape in the region ahead of the 2027 general elections. His wide-reaching grassroots and elite support is expected to bolster the APC’s standing in the zone.

In a brief address, Sambo cited shared ideals and vision as the driving force behind his decision to join the APC, signalling his readiness to play an active role in the party’s future.
