Award-winning Nigerian highlife singer and songwriter, Adekunle Gold, has unveiled a new initiative, Five-Star Care Health, a free health insurance scheme targeting 1,000 individuals living with sickle cell disorder in Lagos.
The announcement was made on Thursday via the artist’s social media platforms, coinciding with World Sickle Cell Awareness Day, observed globally on June 19 to raise awareness and improve understanding of sickle cell disease and the challenges faced by patients, their families, and caregivers.
“This year, through the Adekunle Gold Foundation, we are launching a new program called Five Star Care—a free health insurance scheme for 1,000 people living with sickle cell in Lagos, Nigeria,” Adekunle Gold stated.
The singer, who lives with sickle cell disorder, said the initiative is aimed at alleviating the financial burden often associated with managing the condition.
“We believe that every life deserves Five Star Care, regardless of where you’re from, what you earn, or what you’re going through,” he added.
The scheme is being implemented in partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), and Sickle Cell Management Initiatives (SCMI).

“Our goal is simple: to ease the financial burden of managing sickle cell and help more people access the quality care they deserve—without stress. As someone who has walked this path, I understand how powerful it is to have the right support,” he said.
Adekunle Gold also noted that this marks only the beginning of what he hopes will be a long-term support system for sickle cell warriors.
