European foreign ministers are set to hold critical nuclear talks with Iranian officials as tensions intensify in the Middle East, with U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly weighing potential American involvement in the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict.
The talks come in the wake of a massive wave of Israeli airstrikes on June 13, which Tel Aviv claims were aimed at curbing Iran’s alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons.
Tehran swiftly retaliated, escalating fears of a broader regional war.
Following the Geneva discussions, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister and chief nuclear negotiator, Abbas Araghchi, is expected to address the United Nations Human Rights Council.
In a televised interview, Araghchi ruled out any negotiations with the United States while Israeli attacks persist.
“The Americans have repeatedly sent messages calling seriously for negotiations. But we have made clear that as long as the aggression does not stop, there will be no place for diplomacy and dialogue,” Araghchi stated on Iranian state TV.
The developments mark a significant diplomatic flashpoint, as European leaders seek to salvage the 2015 nuclear deal and de-escalate military confrontations in the region.
