Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has held conciliatory talks with the army commander she reportedly criticized in a leaked phone conversation, as she faces mounting pressure over a political crisis that threatens to unseat her government.
Paetongtarn, daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and in office for less than a year, is battling growing calls to resign or call a snap election.
The controversy stems from a leaked conversation between her and former Cambodian leader Hun Sen, which has sparked national outrage.
The crisis deepened on June 18 when her main coalition partner, the conservative Bhumjaithai Party, withdrew from the alliance, accusing her of insulting the military and the nation.

The withdrawal has left her administration teetering on the brink of collapse.
In a further setback, the United Thai Nation (UTN) party is reportedly threatening to exit the coalition unless Paetongtarn steps down as prime minister, raising the stakes for her embattled leadership.
Efforts to mend ties with the military are seen as a last-ditch attempt to stabilize the government amid a fast-unfolding political drama.
