The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has condemned the recent spate of killings in Benue State, describing the attacks as senseless, tragic, and a serious threat to national peace and stability.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the group expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and the displacement of countless residents.
It called for urgent, decisive action from the Federal Government, the Benue State Government, and security agencies to end the violence and restore order. The group raised concern over allegations that some political actors are exploiting the unrest for personal and political gain, warning that such conduct aggravates the situation and endangers innocent citizens.
The CNG was particularly disturbed by reports of political figures taking advantage of the crisis for selfish interests at the expense of the general good. The pan-northern body called for swift investigations and prosecution of all individuals responsible for the violence, irrespective of their social or political standing.
While condoling with the victims’ families, the coalition prayed for the quick recovery of those injured and urged both government and humanitarian organizations to supply relief materials to ease the suffering of displaced residents. The CNG reiterated its commitment to advocating for justice, peace, and security across the country, particularly in Northern Nigeria, and urged relevant authorities to treat the Benue crisis with the urgency it deserves.
