Over 1,000 at Berlin protest demand regime change in Tehran |LAGOS EYE NEWS

More than 1,000 protesters joined a rally in Berlin on Saturday to call for the leadership in Iran to be ousted, as government critics abroad are increasingly pushing for a change of regime amid the ongoing Israeli attacks on the country.

Berlin police estimated some 1,300 people demonstrated outside the capital’s city hall in central Berlin, while organizers put the number of participants at several thousand.

The rally was organized by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), an organization of exiled Iranians, which is calling for a transition of power brought about by the people.

Spokesman Javad Dabiran called on the West to break off relations with Tehran.

People had arrived in 60 buses from all over Germany to join the protest, he said.

The NCRI was founded in 1981 following the 1979 Islamic Revolution that toppled the previous regime under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

Banned in Iran, the dissident group aims to topple the Islamic leadership that came to power following the uprising. It is dominated by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran.

However, the organization is controversial and opposition members both inside and outside Iran largely reject it.
