The Ogun State Chapter of the Institute for Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN) has organized a “Walk for Sustainable Tourism” aimed at raising awareness on the importance of sustainable tourism to economic and cultural development in the state and across Nigeria.
The awareness walk, led by the Chapter Chairman, Dr. Abolaji J. Kelani, attracted key stakeholders and professionals in the tourism and hospitality industry, further emphasizing the relevance of collaborative efforts in advancing the sector.
Prominent among the participants was Professor H. A. Bakare of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, who co-led the walk alongside Dr. Abiola Lawal and a senior lecturer from Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Ikorodu. Their presence underscored the strong academic backing for sustainable tourism advocacy.
The atmosphere of the event was enlivened by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) band, whose spirited musical performance added colour and vibrancy to the occasion.

Participants were warmly received at the Ogun State Ministry of Culture and Tourism by the Honourable Commissioner, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, the Permanent Secretary, and the Director of Tourism. The state officials commended ITPN’s initiative and pledged continued government support for tourism development in the state.
As part of the activities, the ITPN team also paid a visit to the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, where they were hosted by the General Manager and his team. The visit further emphasized the importance of heritage sites in promoting sustainable tourism.
The “Walk for Sustainable Tourism” marks a significant milestone in the state’s tourism advocacy efforts, reinforcing ITPN’s leadership in promoting sustainable practices and fostering meaningful partnerships among tourism stakeholders.
