Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has disclosed that plans to unveil a formidable opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections are in advanced stages, describing the initiative as a serious and deliberate move to “recover and rebuild Nigeria.”
Atiku made the remarks on Monday while receiving a delegation of Kannywood personalities and prominent North West opinion leaders under the auspices of the PAA 2027 New Media & Digital Communications Forum—a coalition of digital media stakeholders committed to political change.
The delegation was led by Dr. Aslam Aliyu, a leading Zamfara politician and coordinator of the forum, which comprises members from Kannywood, the Zamfara TOP 10 group, and other civic platforms.
According to Atiku, the planned coalition of opposition political leaders is not a symbolic gesture, but a purposeful response to the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians disillusioned by the outcome of the 2023 elections.
He expressed appreciation for the forum’s commitment to galvanizing media support and political awareness across the North West, particularly in response to voter information gaps and public dissatisfaction identified in the last electoral cycle.

Members of the forum, some of whom supported the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023, reportedly expressed regret over what they described as the imposition of “incompetent and clueless leadership” on the country. They pledged their full support for the emerging opposition alliance.
Atiku assured the delegation that “2027 will not be business as usual,” and charged the group to intensify efforts in enlightening the populace about the coalition’s vision.
He emphasized that the coalition possesses both the individual and collective capacity to confront Nigeria’s deepening insecurity and other national challenges.
He concluded by reaffirming his confidence in the forum’s commitment and their strategic role in mobilizing grassroots and digital support for the coalition.
