A fatal road accident involving multiple vehicles claimed four lives on Tuesday along the Soka stretch of the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, throwing the community into mourning.
The collision, which occurred in the early hours of the day, involved four articulated trailers, four Micra taxis, and a Toyota Camry.
An Eyewitnesses said the crash began when a trailer attempting to reverse out of an abandoned filling station was hit by another oncoming trailer.
The resulting impact triggered a chain reaction, as three more trailers following closely behind rammed into the stationary vehicles, crushing several smaller cars in the process.
One of the Micra taxis was completely flattened, killing all four occupants, including the driver.
LAGOS EYE NEWS reports that, among the deceased were a couple who had reportedly boarded the vehicle at Sanyo, just one stop away from the crash site. The woman died instantly, while her husband, seated in the front passenger seat, sustained only minor injuries.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) promptly responded to the scene, evacuating the deceased and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
Today’s incident marks the sixth fatal accident recorded along the Soka axis of the expressway in 2025 alone, raising renewed concerns over road safety and traffic regulation enforcement in the area.
Authorities are urging drivers, especially those operating heavy-duty vehicles, to exercise greater caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent further tragedies.
