Israel has agreed to a ceasefire plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, declaring that it has achieved all its military objectives in the 12-day conflict with Iran.
The announcement came hours after President Trump stated that the ceasefire had taken effect. However, tensions remained high, as Israel reported the interception of two Iranian missiles shortly after the truce was declared.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz warned that the military would “respond forcefully” to any violations of the agreement.
Iran, however, denied launching any missiles at Israel following the ceasefire announcement. Iranian officials accused Israel of continuing its aggression and claimed Tehran had “compelled Israel to unilaterally halt its aggression,” though they stopped short of officially endorsing the ceasefire plan.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi indicated a conditional willingness to observe the truce, saying Tehran would have “no intention” of continuing hostilities if Israel ceased its “illegal aggression.”
President Trump described the truce as a phased process, set to unfold over 24 hours. According to his statement, Iran was to halt all operations starting at approximately 0400 GMT on Tuesday, with Israel expected to follow suit 12 hours later.
