A 28-year-old final-year student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), identified as Arobo Precious, has reportedly taken his own life following a failed romantic relationship.
The incident occurred over the weekend in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Precious, a Higher National Diploma (HND) II student, was found dead in a bush close to his residence around 9 p.m.
His lifeless body was discovered with a rope around his neck, suggesting he had hanged himself. The tragic news has sparked conversations about mental health and emotional support among youths and students.
Shortly before his death, Precious had shared a video on social media which has since gone viral in the state. In the video, he appeared visibly distressed and emotionally broken. His message hinted at heartbreak and despair, with many interpreting it as a cry for help that went unnoticed.
In the video’s caption, he directly mentioned a person named Eniayewu Opeyemi, allegedly linking her to the emotional turmoil that led to his decision. The caption read: “Eniayewu Opeyemi was the one who got me into this. People say there is still life out there, but to me, there is nothing anymore.” The statement has further fueled speculation and concern among peers and residents.
A source close to the deceased, who requested anonymity, confirmed that Precious has already been buried. “He’s been laid to rest. His parents are completely heartbroken.
Precious was a kind and gentle person,” the source said, adding that his death has left a deep scar in the hearts of those who knew him.
