Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced the official renaming of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, in honour of the late former governor, Dr. Omololu Olunloyo.
The announcement comes as a tribute to the enduring contributions of Olunloyo to the development and progress of Oyo State.
Governor Makinde described the move as a deliberate effort by his administration to preserve the legacies of notable figures whose leadership significantly shaped the state’s socio-political and educational landscape. The institution will henceforth be known as Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan.
Dr. Olunloyo, who served as governor in the Second Republic, was widely revered for his intellectual depth, visionary leadership, and commitment to the advancement of Oyo State. By naming the polytechnic after him, the state government seeks to immortalize his contributions and inspire future generations to emulate his values of service, integrity, and excellence.

“This is more than a renaming,” Governor Makinde stated. “It is a statement that we remember those who laid the foundation of our progress and that education remains central to our collective growth.”
The renaming also reflects a broader attempt to link Oyo State’s educational institutions with its rich political and historical heritage, reinforcing the idea that leadership and learning must go hand in hand.
The newly named Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic is expected to serve as both a hub for academic excellence and a living memorial to a leader whose impact remains visible across the state. The governor’s action has been widely praised as a thoughtful and meaningful recognition of past leadership.
With this gesture, Governor Makinde reaffirms his administration’s commitment to honouring those who contributed to the state’s foundation, while using education as a tool to inspire continued progress.
