The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, has arrested and arraigned eight individuals for public urination and breach of peace in the Yaba area of Lagos State.
This was disclosed by the Corps Marshal of the Agency, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd), during a media briefing at the Agency’s Command Headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi.
According to Cole, the arrest was part of LAGESC’s daily monitoring efforts to curb public indecency across the state. He emphasized the agency’s commitment to maintaining environmental order, stating, “As the premier enforcement agency in the State, we cannot allow acts like open urination and defecation to go unchecked. These offences undermine public hygiene and order.”
The suspects — Idowu Adedeji (25), Wasiu Dada (40), Aliyu Mukaila (32), Walter Ofuorochukwu (37), David Chukwu (60), Magaji Abubakar (40), Adegoke Sule (45), and Adeseun Christopher (60) — were arraigned before Magistrate Oshikoya at the Special Offences (Mobile) Court in Oshodi.
They were charged with breach of peace under Section 168(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, and open urination, contrary to Section 5(1) of the Public Health Law of 2015. Each offender was sentenced to one month imprisonment.
Major Cole noted that the judgment serves as a deterrent to others and reinforces the government’s zero-tolerance stance on public indecency.
He further cautioned street traders against displaying goods along road setbacks, medians, lay-bys, verges, and kerbs, urging full compliance with environmental laws.
He reiterated that acts such as open urination and defecation remain illegal in Lagos State and warned that violators would be prosecuted accordingly.
