The Osun Amotekun Corps has strongly denied allegations circulating on social media that its operatives assaulted and charmed one Mr. Olaore Taiwo in Iragbiji, describing the claims as false, baseless, and misleading.
In an official statement signed by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the security outfit clarified that Mr. Taiwo was never arrested, charmed, or physically harmed, contrary to the viral posts being shared online.
According to the Corps, Mr. Taiwo was only invited for questioning following a formal complaint regarding alleged cyberbullying and defamatory content he posted against the organization on social media.
The statement emphasized that Taiwo voluntarily honoured the invitation, was interviewed in a civil and professional manner, and later handed over to the Police Headquarters in Osogbo for further action.
The Corps noted that Mr. Taiwo’s online posts included unverified accusations of extortion, which the agency says are not only untrue but also violate the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015. Specifically, the Corps referenced Section 24 of the Act, which criminalizes online harassment, defamation, and cyberbullying.
“At no point was Mr. Taiwo detained, assaulted, or subjected to any form of physical or mystical harm,” the statement read. “These false claims appear to be a deliberate attempt to discredit the operations of the Corps and mislead the public.”
The Amotekun Corps reiterated its commitment to community policing guided by transparency, professionalism, and accountability. It warned against the spread of unverified information, urging the public to verify facts before sharing content that could incite unrest or erode public trust in law enforcement agencies.
The Corps further reaffirmed its non-partisan stance, pledging to continue protecting lives and property across Osun State in accordance with constitutional provisions and legal mandates.
“We appreciate the continued support of the good people of Osun State,” the statement concluded, “and encourage citizens to channel complaints through proper legal avenues instead of resorting to smear campaigns on social media.”
