The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has reportedly resigned from his position on Friday, following mounting pressure from party stakeholders.
According to credible sources within the party who spoke with Lagos Eye News, Ganduje was compelled to step down after his handling of the party’s primary elections for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Councils drew widespread criticism.
“The chairman was forced to resign following his inability to manage the FCT Area Council election primaries for the APC,” a party insider disclosed.
The source specifically referenced the controversial Bwari Area Council Chairmanship primary, describing the event as “the height of disgrace.”

“It was a ridiculous outing. The DPO openly chased away other aspirants, leaving only Hon. Joshua Musa Ishaku — a known supporter of the opposition PDP who did not back President Tinubu during the 2023 APC primaries,” the source alleged.
Insiders suggest the resignation is a result of growing discontent among APC stakeholders, particularly from the North Central zone, who have long demanded that the party’s national chairmanship return to their region.
Ganduje, who took over the party’s leadership in August 2023 following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has faced persistent opposition from party leaders in the North Central, who argue that their geopolitical zone deserves representation at the helm of the party.
Party officials say the APC is considering appointing one of its current national vice chairmen as acting chairman, pending the election of a substantive replacement at the party’s national convention scheduled for December.
A senior APC official told Lagos Eye News that Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, was persuaded to step down as part of efforts to rebuild internal cohesion and strengthen the party’s unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The APC has yet to issue an official statement on Ganduje’s resignation.
