President Tinubu Meets With Wike, Fubara, Rivers Lawmakers to Resolve Political Crisis |LAGOS EYE NEWS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday met with key political actors from Rivers State, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and other members of the state assembly, in a bid to resolve the long-running political crisis in the state.

According to a report by Channels Television, the high-level meeting resulted in a reconciliation agreement among the warring factions, months after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State in March due to escalating tensions.

Sources familiar with the meeting disclosed that the parties were directed to develop and implement modalities for executing the peace deal, which includes reinstating Governor Fubara to full executive authority.

President Tinubu had reportedly suspended the governor earlier this year amid fears that the deepening political unrest could destabilize governance across the state.

As part of the reconciliation terms, several individuals identified as key actors in the political conflict have been excluded from participating in the current administration.

Those affected include former Chief of Staff Ehie Edison, factional Speaker Oko Jumbo, former Secretary to the State Government Tammy Danagogo, and other political figures such as Chijioke Ihunwo, Promise Reginald, and Ichemati, popularly known as Sugar Mayor.

A senior government source at the meeting noted that the exclusions are intended to “return the state to political normalcy and prevent further disruption from known crisis merchants.”

The development has been widely welcomed by political observers, stakeholders, and citizens who view the move as a significant step toward lasting peace and stability in Rivers State.
