The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has expressed concern over the fate of one of its graduates, Jamiu Basola, whose admission has been flagged as “fake” by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) during the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization process.
Basola was admitted into the Department of Civil Engineering in the 2017/2018 academic session after successfully sitting for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) administered by JAMB.
He completed the five-year programme and fulfilled all academic requirements for graduation.
However, while attempting to complete his NYSC mobilization documents in his final year, Basola discovered that his admission had been declared “fake” by JAMB. Upon contacting the examination body, he was informed that the matter would require investigation by the police.
Following this development, the police invited FUTA for clarification. In response, the university submitted all relevant documents related to Basola’s admission for scrutiny.
The police subsequently completed their investigation and communicated their report to JAMB Headquarters for further action.
In a statement issued on June 28, 2025, by Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, Director of Corporate Communication at FUTA, the university disclosed that it also sent a formal reminder to JAMB to expedite the resolution of the issue.
“FUTA has discharged its responsibility on the matter on behalf of Jamiu Basola and awaits JAMB, which flagged his status in the first place, to resolve the matter based on the documents and information supplied to them by the university,” the statement read.
The university further assured that it will continue to monitor developments and provide necessary support to aid the resolution process.
“The ball is now in JAMB’s court,” the statement concluded.
