Tragedy struck on Lagos Island Monday evening when a 43-year-old man, Pere Faruk, reportedly took his own life shortly after allegedly dousing his girlfriend with acid during a domestic dispute.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:40 p.m. at No. 8 Messy Street, Lagos Island.
According to sources, Faruk allegedly attacked his girlfriend, identified as Kemi Bashiru, during an altercation. Bashiru sustained severe burns and was rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Shortly after the assault, Faruk was found unresponsive in his room. A bottle of Sniper insecticide was reportedly discovered beside him, suggesting he may have ingested the substance.
His younger brother, Pere Jeli, who resides nearby at No. 9 Igbosere Street, was said to have been alerted to the incident and promptly raised the alarm.
Faruk’s body was taken to a hospital and later deposited at a public mortuary for autopsy. Emergency responders also documented the scene.
Police authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the events that led to the suspected suicide.
