Labour Party to Peter Obi: Quit Now or Face Expulsion |LAGOS EYE NEWS

The Labour Party has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to its former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, demanding that he formally resign his membership from the party following his involvement with a newly formed political coalition.

In a strongly worded statement released on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Obiora Ifoh, the party distanced itself from the coalition and described its members as “power mongers” with self-serving agendas.

“The Labour Party is not and will never be part of the so-called coalition. It is an assemblage of old, recycled, desperate, and frustrated politicians whose only goal is to return to the corridors of power,” Ifoh stated.

He warned Nigerians to be wary of the coalition’s campaign rhetoric, saying slogans such as “a new Nigeria is possible” are misleading and unattainable under the current makeup of the alliance.

“These are individuals who have mismanaged Nigeria for years. Desperate politicians cannot bring about a new Nigeria,” he added.

The party also accused Mr. Obi of holding secret meetings with some Labour Party members in an attempt to woo them into joining the coalition.

According to Ifoh, while some members have resisted the overtures, the party will not tolerate divided loyalty.

“Any member of the Labour Party found associating with the coalition has 48 hours to formally resign. We are not available for individuals with dual agendas or deceptive loyalties. You cannot be with Labour in the morning and with the coalition at night,” he said.

Highlighting the frustrations of Nigerian youth, who constitute nearly 70% of the population, Ifoh emphasized that the coalition does not represent the vision of a progressive and inclusive future.

“These opportunistic politicians are only interested in relaunching themselves into power. The new Nigeria can only be achieved through the Labour Party, and we remain committed to that course,” he affirmed.

The party urged its members to remain united and loyal as it prepares for future elections, reiterating its commitment to lead the country toward genuine transformation.
