The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and the Lagos State Police Command have announced a joint effort to ensure a peaceful and secure conduct of the upcoming local government elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12.
The elections will be held across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting with political parties at the LASIEC headquarters in Lagos, the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Justice Mobolanle Abidemi Okikiolu-Ighile, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to neutrality.
She assured stakeholders that the election would be free, fair, transparent, and inclusive.
On his part, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, assured political party representatives and the general public of the police command’s readiness to secure the electoral process.
He disclosed that adequate security personnel would be deployed across the 13,375 polling units in the state, with deployment beginning on Friday, July 11, to ensure a hitch-free election.
To further strengthen election monitoring and response, a control room will be established at the Lagos State Police Command.
Similarly, CP Moshood announced that a joint security exercise would be conducted on Thursday, July 10, involving the military and other federal security agencies. The exercise is aimed at creating a secure environment ahead of the election.
