The Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will be removed from power in the 2027 general elections provided the opposition unites under a common front.
Aregbesola made the bold declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting with party members in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
He stated that the ADC is spearheading a broad coalition of progressive-minded Nigerians determined to challenge the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Let us put personal interests aside and unite. We have multiple elections ahead of the presidential, National Assembly, and state elections and with unity, we cannot be defeated,” Aregbesola told attendees.
He further revealed that the ADC-led coalition has received strong backing from key opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, both of whom, he said, support the movement to reposition Nigeria.
Aregbesola, however, warned party members to brace for coordinated attacks from the APC, which, he alleged, will use propaganda to destabilize the emerging alliance. He urged party loyalists to stay focused and resist being swayed by misinformation or internal conflicts.
Also speaking at the event, Hon. Gbenga Edema, former governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Ondo State, accused the APC of fabricating propaganda to cast doubt on the legitimacy and unity of the ADC-led coalition.

“The court cases being hyped are mere distractions. They have no bearing on our political activities,” Edema said, while applauding Aregbesola for providing much-needed clarity on both internal party affairs and national issues.
In his remarks, Hon. Akin Akinbobola, a former APC chieftain and ex-Special Assistant to Governor Olusegun Mimiko, criticized the current state of governance in Nigeria. He called on all progressive forces to rally behind the coalition to “rescue Nigeria from sinking.”
“Nigeria is in distress marked by insecurity, hunger, and collapsed infrastructure. The ADC is offering a vehicle to restore hope through unity and reform,” Akinbobola asserted.
He further disclosed that over ten political parties are already part of the coalition, with recent strategic meetings attracting increasing interest.
“We are building a large political force. It will be like a tsunami sweeping across the country. The challenge is managing the size, but there’s room for everyone,” he concluded.
