The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) deployed its operatives across Lagos State on Saturday as part of efforts to monitor the ongoing Local Government Elections and promote electoral transparency.
Leading the EFCC’s oversight mission were the Zonal Director of Lagos Directorate 1 and Chief of Staff to the EFCC Executive Chairman, CE Michael Nzekwe, alongside the Acting Director of Lagos Directorate 2, Ghali Ahmed.
The team conducted a strategic tour of key polling units in the state to observe voting procedures and ensure a peaceful electoral process.
In Banana Island, CE Nzekwe visited Ward Onikoyi II, Polling Units 016 and 022. The tour then moved through Ikoyi and Victoria Island, covering Ward Ikoyi I, Polling Unit 020; Ward D, Polling Units 023 and 006; and Ward B, Polling Units 018, 019, 025, and 026 within the Bonny Camp axis.
According to the EFCC, voting at most locations was peaceful and orderly. While polling had concluded in some areas by the time of the visit, EFCC operatives remained present to monitor post-voting activities and deter any misconduct during the wrap-up process.
Other security agencies stationed at the polling units commended the EFCC’s proactive involvement, highlighting the importance of inter-agency collaboration in ensuring free, fair, and credible elections.

The presence of EFCC officials served as a deterrent to potential electoral malpractices and underscored the Commission’s continued commitment to upholding accountability in democratic processes.
The EFCC reiterated that it will continue to play an active role in safeguarding the electoral space from financial crimes and vote-buying, while encouraging Nigerians to uphold the principles of transparency and fairness during elections.
