The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has declared candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winners of the just-concluded chairmanship elections in Badagry Local Government, Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), and Badagry-West LCDA.
The official declaration was made late Saturday at the respective collation centres located at the Local Government Secretariats in Ajara, Iworo, and Kankon.
In Badagry Local Government, the APC candidate, Mr. Babatunde Hunpe, emerged victorious with a total of 27,442 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, who polled 1,814 votes, and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate, who scored 308 votes.
Announcing the result at the collation centre, the Returning Officer, Mr. Akinwunmi Lewis, stated:
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, I hereby declare Mr. Babatunde Hunpe as the duly elected Chairman of Badagry LGA.”
In Olorunda LCDA, APC’s Mr. Peter Kumayon secured a landslide victory with 28,799 votes, while the ZLP candidate garnered 562 votes. Although the PDP did not field a chairmanship candidate, it recorded 470 votes.
Declaring the result, the Returning Officer, Mr. Adegboyega Oladiran, said:
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes, I hereby declare Mr. Peter Kumayon as the duly elected Chairman of Olorunda LCDA.”
For Badagry-West LCDA, the APC candidate, Mr. Rauf Ibrahim Yemaren, was declared winner with 11,538 votes, defeating the ZLP candidate, who managed 73 votes.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Abiodun Okedeyi of Lagos State University of Education, stated:
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law by securing the highest number of valid votes and scoring at least 5 per cent of the votes in all five polling units, Rauf Ibrahim Yemaren is hereby declared the duly elected Chairman of Badagry-West LCDA.”
In his post-election remarks, Hunpe pledged to fulfill all his campaign promises and build on the achievements of his predecessor.
Similarly, Kumayon expressed gratitude to the people of Olorunda for their support, promising not to disappoint them.
“Your trust in me will not be in vain,” he said.
Yemaren, in his victory speech, thanked Mr. Joseph Bamgbose, APC Apex Leader in Badagry-West, and the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Joseph Gbenu, for their support. He assured residents of his commitment to continue the development strides of the previous administration.
The elections were part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots governance in Lagos State.
