Hon. Olamilekan Olu Akindipe, popularly known as Lampholder, has emerged winner of the chairmanship election in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area following the July 12 Lagos State Local Government polls.
Akindipe, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled a commanding 49,131 votes, defeating other contenders by a wide margin. The African Action Congress (AAC) secured 381 votes, Labour Party (LP) garnered 956, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) received 996, and Social Democratic Party (SDP) had 96 votes bringing the total valid votes cast to 51,500.
He was officially declared winner by the electoral officer, having secured the highest number of votes.
In his acceptance speech, Akindipe expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Ajeromi-Ifelodun for their overwhelming support and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive grassroots governance.
“I salute our indefatigable APC Party Chairman in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Pa Adeyemi — a true stabilizing force whose leadership was instrumental in our success,” he said.
He also acknowledged the support of Prince Rabiu Adio, Lagos West Senatorial Leader, and the outgoing Chairman, Hon. Fatai Ayoola, describing them as pillars of guidance and continuity.
Special appreciation was extended to Hon. Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul (PhD), Member of the House of Representatives, and to Alhaji Tanko of the Arewa community for their grassroots mobilization and steadfast solidarity.
Akindipe praised fellow chairmanship aspirants, party leaders, ward executives, youth and women groups, as well as the newly elected councillors from Wards A to I for their collective efforts during the campaign.
“To the courageous voters the silent soldiers of democracy your decision has reshaped our future. You chose clarity over confusion. You chose the Lamp that leads the way,” he declared.
Meanwhile, the APC has swept all chairmanship seats across all 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State, according to results released by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).

Alimosho LGA: Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson
Kosofe LGA: Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe
Mushin LGA: Hon. Haruna Olatunbosun Aruwe
The ruling party also secured victories in LGAs such as Oshodi‑Isolo, Ojo, Ikorodu, Surulere, Agege, Lagos Island, Ifako‑Ijaiye, Amuwo‑Odofin, and Lagos Mainland, and in LCDAs like Igando‑Ikotun, Yaba, Eti‑Osa East, Apapa Iganmu, Epe, and Lekki.
Despite reports of low voter turnout, the elections were conducted peacefully with increased security presence at polling units.
