Community Policing: Lagos Neighbourhood Officers Equipped with Bicycles for Patrol |LAGOS EYE NEWS

In a renewed effort to bolster community policing and improve patrol mobility, the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) has officially distributed bicycles to officers of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC).

At the handover ceremony, held on Monday in Lagos, the General Manager of the Agency, Prince Dr. Ifalade Oyekan, emphasized the strategic importance of the initiative in enhancing community surveillance and fostering grassroots security.

He issued a clear directive to officers to ensure responsible use and proper maintenance of the bicycles.

“These are government assets purchased with taxpayers’ money,” Oyekan said. “They are not to be personalized or handed over to friends or family members as training tools. Each officer is personally responsible for maintaining the bicycle assigned to them not the government, the Corps Superintendent (CS), or the Divisional Commander (DC).”

The GM stressed that officers must demonstrate discipline, passion, and a strong sense of duty in handling the equipment, warning that any misuse or negligence would not be tolerated.

He also charged CSs and DCs with monitoring the use of the bicycles within their jurisdictions to ensure accountability and efficiency in community patrols.

Addressing a new cohort of bicycle patrol officers, Dr. Oyekan urged them to uphold the values of integrity and diligence. “Your conduct reflects on your superiors and the image of the agency as a whole,” he noted.

The bicycle distribution initiative aligns with the ongoing security reforms championed by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, aimed at strengthening grassroots security and improving community engagement through accessible and eco-friendly patrol methods.
