U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern ultimatum to Russia, demanding an end to its war in Ukraine within 50 days or face a new wave of massive economic sanctions.
The warning came as Trump announced plans to bolster Ukraine’s military through NATO-backed arms support.
Speaking at the White House on Monday during an Oval Office meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump declared he was “very, very unhappy” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, noting that his patience with Moscow had finally worn thin.
Trump revealed that if Russia failed to comply, the U.S. would introduce “secondary tariffs” targeting countries still trading with Russia.
These new sanctions aim to disrupt Moscow’s economic lifelines, especially through its remaining trade partners.
According to data from the Russian Federal Customs Service, Russia’s top trading partner last year was China, accounting for roughly 34% of its trade. Other significant partners include India, Turkey, and Belarus.
In a significant move, Trump and Rutte also unveiled a multibillion-dollar NATO arms deal that will see the alliance purchase advanced weaponry including Patriot anti-missile systems — from the United States for delivery to Kyiv.
