Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a 40-year-old man, Yahaya Saleh, for allegedly attempting to bribe police investigators with ₦1.5 million to secure the release of a suspected kidnapper.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Saka Ajao Adewale, made this known on Wednesday while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Abuja. He said the bribe was intended to compromise an ongoing investigation into a kidnapping syndicate operating within the FCT and its environs.
According to the CP, the arrest was the result of a discreet operation carried out by officers of the command’s Scorpion Squad.
“The suspect approached the police investigators and offered the bribe as an inducement to compromise the case and unlawfully release one of the arrested suspects,” CP Adewale stated.
He commended the officers for rejecting the offer and acting with integrity. Legal procedures were immediately initiated, leading to Saleh’s arrest.
CP Adewale further assured the public that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, reaffirming the command’s commitment to professionalism and its zero-tolerance stance on corruption and interference with justice.
He praised the operatives involved in the operation for upholding the ethics of the force and vowed that the command would not relent in its efforts to rid the FCT of criminal elements.
