The Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has paraded three suspects arrested in connection with serious criminal offences ranging from burglary and theft to sexual assault.
The arrests followed a series of intelligence-driven operations carried out across different parts of the state by Amotekun operatives.
One of the suspects, Kayode Adekunle, a 30-year-old bricklayer, was apprehended for allegedly breaking into an uncompleted residential building at a new site in Osogbo and carting away electrical tools and wiring materials valued at approximately ₦2.5 million.
The State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Chief Dr Hon. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, disclosed that the suspect exploited his familiarity with construction sites to gain unauthorized access to the premises after work hours. Following days of discreet surveillance, Amotekun operatives tracked him to his residence, where he was arrested along with the stolen items.
In another operation, 23-year-old tailor Lawal Musa, a native of Kaduna residing in the Sabo area of Osogbo, was arrested for stealing household items including a flat-screen television, electrical cables, and two large standing fans, with a total value exceeding ₦800,000.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to selling the stolen items at giveaway prices to an individual identified as “Rilwan” within the same neighborhood. He reportedly sold the television for ₦27,000 and the fans for ₦30,000. Investigations are ongoing to determine Rilwan’s role and uncover any links to a wider criminal network.
In a separate and disturbing incident, the Amotekun Corps arrested 29-year-old Lekan Bakare, a tailor and commercial motorcycle operator, for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman at gunpoint in the Alusekere area of Ede.
According to the victim, Bakare lured her to his residence under the guise of helping to locate her missing ward. Upon arrival, he reportedly threatened her with a locally made pistol and a knife before committing the act. The survivor reported the incident promptly to Amotekun operatives, who swung into action and apprehended the suspect. He has since confessed and the case has been transferred to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
Speaking on the arrests, Commander Omoyele reiterated the Corps’ commitment to eliminating criminal elements from the state and ensuring the safety of all residents.
“These arrests are a clear demonstration of our zero-tolerance for criminal activities in Osun State,” Omoyele stated. “We will not rest until every neighborhood is free from threats and those responsible are brought to justice.”
He also commended the public for their cooperation and timely information, urging continued collaboration between the public and security agencies.
Legal proceedings against the suspects are underway.
