Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has reaffirmed his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), urging party members to remain united and resist internal division.

He made the remarks at the Founding Fathers and Stakeholders Consultative Conference held in Abuja and convened by elder statesman, Professor Jerry Gana.

Addressing party stakeholders at the high-level meeting, Dr. Saraki described the PDP as the most credible vehicle for Nigeria’s progress, citing its achievements during its 16-year rule as evidence of its capacity to deliver development and national unity.

“Our 16-year record—during which Nigeria became Africa’s largest economy and grew into a more united nation—stands as proof of what we are capable of achieving together,” Saraki said.

He cautioned against defections driven by frustration or dissatisfaction, urging members to remain and work collectively to rebuild the party rather than abandon it.

“Let’s not abandon a ship in need of repairs. If you must leave, let it be on ideology—not anger,” he stated. “The ultimate goal must be to put Nigeria first, and rise above the propaganda designed to divide us as a party.”

Dr. Saraki expressed appreciation to Professor Jerry Gana for convening what he called a timely and necessary “family meeting,” aimed at strengthening the party’s foundations and fostering reconciliation.

“The PDP was built on solid foundations. Its founders handed it over to us with trust. God forbid that we become the generation that lets it fall apart,” Saraki said, stressing the importance of preserving the legacy of the party’s founding fathers.

Reaffirming his personal loyalty to the PDP, Saraki declared: “I will never give up on this party. I urge all true patriots of the PDP to agree that for the greater good of Nigeria, leaving is not an option.
