The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to a protest held at the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday concerning the constitution of local government cabinets across the state.
In a statement signed by the party’s spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the APC acknowledged and respected the rights of party stakeholders and members to express grievances peacefully, noting that such civic engagement is a hallmark of democracy.
“We commend those who conducted themselves in a calm and orderly manner during the protest,” Oladejo stated.
He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to following laid-down procedures and internal guidelines in the selection of cabinet members for the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State. According to the statement, nominations will be based on the propositions of local party leadership after appropriate consultations.
“The state chapter of the party only plays an advisory role in this process,” the statement clarified, while firmly denying allegations of imposition of candidates at any level.
Oladejo urged party members interested in cabinet positions to channel their ambitions through their respective local party leaders, who, he emphasized, hold the authority to nominate.
The APC also reiterated its openness to constructive dialogue and its commitment to resolving internal disagreements in line with party values and procedures.
“Our structures exist to address dissent, evaluate claims, and foster unity,” Oladejo said, calling on protesters to make use of official party channels to express their concerns.
The statement concluded with an appeal for patience and understanding, assuring that the party leadership is committed to fairness and equity in the cabinet selection process.
“Our ultimate goal is to ensure stability within the party and in the governance of the state,” Oladejo affirmed.
